Why I Wear My New Fitbit Air on My Ankle: A 10-Year User’s Ultimate Solution

Fitbit Air and Galaxy Watch7

⌚ Can’t Let Go of My Fitbit

Google’s Pixel Watch is Android-only and cannot be used with an iPhone. Google’s “Fitbit” brand beautifully fills that gap.

I have been a dedicated Fitbit user since 2015, but right now, the main device on my left wrist is actually the Galaxy Watch7. ✨
I ended up getting this after returning the Pixel Watch4 in October 2025 (and selling my Apple Watch 10 at the same time). Since my smartphone is a Galaxy to begin with, I absolutely love using it.

Back in October 2025, the new Watch8 had already been released, but I just wasn’t excited by that square look, so I went out of my way to get a like-new, mint-condition Watch7 for cheap.

I mean, I literally let go of the Apple Watch 10 because I was tired of the square design, so why on earth would I buy another square device?! Haha. 🤪

😴 Shocking Sleep Score Difference! Samsung vs. Fitbit Algorithm Showdown

I will review the Watch7 in detail another time, but whether I bought the Apple Watch or the Galaxy Watch, the one thing I could never let go of was my Fitbit.

If I had liked the Pixel Watch, I wouldn’t have needed to keep the Fitbit Charge6. However, as I wrote in my previous post, I ended up returning it without feeling any excitement at all. Because of that, I couldn’t bring myself to throw away 10 years of precious data, so I kept the Charge6.

But honestly, nobody needs two fitness trackers. 💨
If you ask me, “Then why don’t you just stick to one?” All I can say is that the sleep score data analysis between Samsung Health and Fitbit is completely, utterly different.

Even though the exact same human being is wearing them on the left and right wrists while sleeping, the results are unbelievable.
While the Watch7 on my left wrist gives me a sleep score of “19,” the Charge6 on my right wrist rates it highly with an “89!” 💥

Here is the detailed analysis data from that night. 👇

  • Samsung Health: Deep sleep 0 min, REM sleep 2 min, Light sleep 2 hr 57 min (meaning it judged 4 hr 57 min as completely awake time. Haha.)
  • Fitbit: Deep sleep 49 min, REM sleep 52 min, Light sleep 6 hr 5 min (Awake time was only 14 minutes!)

Whether it’s a difference in their programming or algorithms, I don’t know the exact technical details, but Fitbit feels overwhelmingly more accurate to my actual body sensation.

Perhaps, if you have a perfectly healthy heart, you wouldn’t see such a massive discrepancy.
Samsung might be blindly judging the abnormal signals from my atrial fibrillation as “not sleeping.” On the other hand, Fitbit—which has been continuously measuring my data for over a decade since before I even developed atrial fibrillation—might just view those data fluctuations as my “individuality” and didn’t lower my score.

I still don’t know why the two companies are so wildly different, but I just couldn’t throw away my desire to keep tracking my 10+ years of continuous Fitbit data. 🥰

💸 16,800 Yen with No Screen?! Internal Conflict and the “Bait” of the New Google Fitbit Air

But the Charge6 on my right wrist doesn’t receive any notifications, and of course, I don’t even need it as a watch. After all, I have my favorite Watch7 on my left wrist. Haha. ⌚️

So I was thinking, “Honestly, I don’t need a screen at all. I wish they would just release a simple, bracelet-like tracker. Something incredibly light, thin, and completely out of the way when I wear it!” Right around that time, the Google Fitbit Air arrived at the absolute perfect moment.

But seriously… isn’t the price way too high?! 😭
It has no screen, receives no notifications, and obviously has no GPS or contactless payments.
And yet, it costs 16,800 yen! Can you believe it?!

Sure, if you pre-order it, you get 5,580 Google Store points, but honestly, what are we supposed to use those points on?!
Amazon points have endless uses, but Google Store points… I mean, come on. Haha. 🙄
Plus, unlike Amazon points, they expire in just two years!
It’s nothing but total “bait” to hook us. 😑

🦶 Unprecedented Experiment Begins! Charge6 on Right Wrist, Air on Right Ankle

But… I bought it anyway! (Wait, you actually bought it?! Haha. 🛍️)
Yes! To wear and measure from my ankle!!!

Because wearing trackers on both wrists is just so annoying, especially during the hot summer months! 💦
So, I carefully checked the band size specifications, confirmed it could fit around my ankle, and took the plunge!

Of course, I didn’t trade in my Charge6.
Trading it in at the Google Store gives you next to nothing, and I’ve already experienced firsthand getting so furious that steam practically came out of my head due to how horribly complicated their trade-in process is! 怒 🌋

Instead, for the next three months (during the Google Health Premium free trial period), I’m going to spend my days fully equipped with a 【Charge6 on my right wrist & Air on my right ankle】 and track the differences in full detail!

I figured nobody else in the world would be crazy enough to do such an eccentric experiment. Haha. 🤪

Also, with the Fitbit app gradually switching over to the “Google Health” app starting 2026-05-19, I noticed a massive, shocking change in its functionality. I’ll save the full story for next time! Stay tuned! 🔥
